Valery Slavchev

Valery Slavchev was born on 19 May 1970 in Sofia. He graduated from a vocational school for woodworking and interior architectural design and also specialized in radio equipment and electronics. When fourteen years old, he attended a rock concert for the first time and knew immediately that this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life – be in the lights and stage smoke, together with a singing audience and loud rock music. In 1984 as a student in 121 School “Lilya Karastoyanova” (“Georgy Izmirliev”) he created HORIZON group, where, at first, his classmates performed. Over the next few years the group recruited its final members. Valery’s first performance on stage was on 22 June1985 when he sang with HORIZON. The group was one of the popular school bands at that time. A five year interval followed as the boys from the band were serving their military service. In 1994, they renewed Horizon’s activity. During the period 1994-2013, Valery performed with the group in 3000 concerts in his capacity of the band’s front man, and recorded 4 albums – Draw a Picture (1996), Tenderly (2003), I Find Gold (2007) and Too Curious(2014) . With HORIZON, he sang and recorded the first Bulgarian cover version – Till My Last Breath (1994). For Valery, HORIZON is a never-ending dream come true, and life with the group – a unique daily routine and experience. Thousands of performances with people, thousands of kilometres of travel, the magic of the stage equipment and rock-n-roll sound - these are some of Valery’s passions. Together with his performances with Horizon, Valery Slavchev issued two gospel albums – We Shall Resist the Cold Wind (1993) and Show Me (1996).For a certain period of time, Valery S. was involved with iconography. He is the painter of 200 oil paintings, which are in the collections of art enthusiasts living in more than 20 countries throughout the world.
